Description

This is a “his and hers” project, consisting of two mosaics placed in gentle arched niches, located at the opposite ends of a long hallway. For the “hers” mosaic design, the composition is centered around a real antique “Mc Coy” made ceramic vase that is turquoise, appearing to hold bright and bold coral color flowers and mustard yellow centers, and two fluttering hummingbirds. For the “his” mosaic, the design is a simple yet complex olive tree, with a winding tree trunk, and two Phoebe birds perched on the branches. The backgrounds are both mostly made-up of natural beige stone, and at the bottom ground level the mosaics are rusty colored granite rock that the artist foraged from the client’s property, at the request of the client. Even though the designs for these mosaics are representational, the imagery is “abstracted” in the style.
