Children's Hospital San Diego
“Carley’s Magical Gardens”
Commissioned by private donations given to the Children’s
Hospital Foundation supporting oncology/hematology at Children’s
Hospital of San Diego. Emerson was part of a dynamic team of
artists and architects who collaborated on the design of three
magical gardens for the hospital. She was specifically responsible
for the design and creation of a 10’ diameter ceramic
tile mosaic hummingbird’s nest and 20 fabric butterflies
located throughout the gardens. Lori Tylock of San Diego fabricated
the butterflies. An Orchid Award for architectural excellence
was given for the design in San Diego in 2000. Completed September
