Pine Avenue Park: "Historic Flowers of Carlsbad"
Carlsbad,
CA 2006
This public art project consists of five giant cast concrete
flowers with mosaics front and back. Commissioned
by the City of Carlsbad, CA, this project was created for
the Parks and Recreation Department's newly constructed Pine
Avenue Park. Carlsbad was historically considered
to be the commercial flower growing capitol of the United
States. The five flowers represented are the Bird
of Paradise, Gladiola, Poinsettia, Ranunculas, and Zinnia. Each
flower stands 12' high by 3' wide by 18” deep. Quarry
Tile of Spokane, WA made the ceramic tile. ProFoam
of Vista, CA fabricated the styrofoam forms. The concrete
contractor is Sundt Construction, Inc. of San Diego. The
structural engineering was by Simon Wong Engineering of San
Diego. Bob's Crane Service of Lakeside, CA brought
each sculpture to the site. The landscape architect
for Pine Avenue Park is Schmidt Design Group of San Diego. |
